The History Of Southern Minnesota Pormotions

Jeff first got involved in enduro racing in 1988. He spent his free time with friends working on and building enduro and demo cars during the summer, hoping maybe someday he could race one himself. After a few years of pitting for his brother, Scot, Jeff felt it was something he definitely had to try.

On August 21, 1993, Jeff finally had his chance. It didn't quite turn out the way he dreamed, on lap 58 he was involved in a collision that sent his car up into a ball of flames. Jeff was rushed to the Owatonna hospital with burns on 30% of his body.  Then later, he was transported to the Burn Unit in the Hennepin County Medical Center, where he spent the next 6 weeks. In the summer of 1995, he had the itch to get back into an enduro car.  He raced the series that year with a much safer car than you could ever expect.

1996 stated a whole new era; it was called the pure stock division, a new class of stock car racing meant for the beginner. After winning the championship in 1997, Jeff decided to purchase a brand new Kurshinsky chassis to race in the Wissota Street Stock division.  In 2007, he had found himself atop of the division once again winning the Track Championship at the Chateau Raceway (Lansing, MN).

Back in 1999, he started teching for the Steele County Fair Enduro, under the management of Ron Nelson and Jerry Ingvalson and later was promoted to head tech.  In 2004, they felt that with the experience that Jeff had gained through the years as a pit man, racer, and tech official he could make it as a promoter.

This was when Southern Minnesota Promotions (SMP) was formed.

SMP currently promotes races at various county fairs and race tracks in the Southern Minnesota area.

SMP has a goal that if  they provide a safe, fair, low budget racing environment they can make this sport fun for the whole family and that is what they plan to do.
